I attended HLTH Europe looking for signals about the future role of diagnostics in healthcare.
AI dominated the agenda, but the most interesting observation was not AI itself.
It was the convergence of five themes:
- Adoption – patients and clinicians are already using AI.
- Sustainability – workforce and capacity pressures are making digitalization a necessity.
- Intelligence – healthcare is beginning to build systems designed for both humans and AI agents.
- Governance – Europe is trying to ensure that future health intelligence is built on trusted foundations.
- Meaning – generating more information is not the same as generating better decisions.
Taken together, these conversations point to something larger than technology.
Health intelligence is being built.
Diagnostics is already part of that future. The question is whether diagnostics will help shape it, or mainly supply information into it.
The carousel contains five quotes that stayed with me from HLTH Europe 2026.
