Beyond the Data Feed: Diagnostic Contribution in Health Intelligence

by

Health intelligence is reshaping how diagnostic information is used across healthcare, research and AI-enabled systems. This fourth Persodia IVD Industry Monograph examines how Diagnostics can contribute beyond producing results by enabling information that remains structured, reusable and clinically meaningful across evolving health-information architectures. A structural analysis of an emerging strategic challenge for the Diagnostics industry.

Health intelligence is becoming operational. What does that mean for Diagnostics?

Persodia Research has published IVD Industry Monograph No. 4: Beyond the Data Feed: Diagnostic Contribution in Health Intelligence. The publication examines one of the emerging structural questions facing the Diagnostics industry: how diagnostic information will participate in increasingly connected health-information environments.

Health systems are entering a new phase in which information is expected to support not only immediate clinical decisions, but also continuity of care, research, public health, operational management and AI-enabled analysis. Regulations such as the European Health Data Space (EHDS) illustrate that this transition is becoming operational rather than merely conceptual.

For Diagnostics, this raises an important question.

The traditional objective has been to produce and validate accurate diagnostic results. Increasingly, however, health-information architectures require diagnostic information to remain available, structured, traceable and reusable through authorised pathways long after the original laboratory report has been issued.

This monograph explores what that additional responsibility may mean for laboratories, manufacturers, diagnostic informatics providers, professional societies and health systems.

What this monograph examines

Rather than presenting a technical implementation guide or policy proposal, the publication provides a structural analysis of how Diagnostics may contribute to emerging health-intelligence architectures.

Among the questions addressed are:

  • What is meant by Health Intelligence as an operating concept?
  • Why does the European Health Data Space represent an important strategic signal?
  • What additional capabilities may be required beyond producing validated reports?
  • What does “architecture-ready” diagnostic information actually involve?
  • Why are partnership, stewardship and long-term information maintenance becoming increasingly important?
  • How might the contribution of Diagnostics become more visible as diagnostic information is reused across healthcare?

The monograph argues that the future role of Diagnostics may extend beyond generating accurate results to supporting the long-term usability of diagnostic information across increasingly connected healthcare systems.

Part of the IVD Industry Monograph Series

This publication is the fourth volume in the Persodia IVD Industry Monograph Series, which applies the analytical framework developed in Inside the Clinical Diagnostics Industry: Constraints Shaping Strategy—Towards Health Intelligence to emerging strategic questions affecting the industry. Each monograph addresses a focused topic through structural analysis supported by public evidence and field observation, rather than offering prescriptive recommendations.
